Day Drive ending at Maid-Rite Specialty Foods
and see a private exotic car collection – NEPA Section Event
Fogelsville or Blakeslee to Dunmore, PA. View Don Bernstein's 40 antique and classic car collection (Don's Antique Cars)
The first part of the Day Drive will meet at 7:30 AM to 8 AM for coffee, donut, and/or breakfast sandwich ordered off the menu
(paid for by our NEPA club) at Dunkin Donuts in Fogelsville (241 PA-100, Fogelsville PA 18051 - north of interstate 78 on Rte 100,
next to Weis Food Market).
We will leave Dunkin Donuts at 8:15 AM for the first part of the Day Drive heading north over some interesting back roads and
should arrive at the Blakeslee WAWA at 9:45 AM where we will pick up members from that area.
The second part of the Day Drive will meet at 9:45 AM at the Blakeslee WAWA, 296 PA-940, Blakeslee PA 18610 (Route 115 & Route 940).
As you enter off Route 115, there is a parking area to the right of the WAWA where we will meet.
We will depart the WAWA at 10 AM (or later if the group from the first part of the Day Drive are delayed)
and continue on back roads to Dunmore.
At 11 AM will be the highlight of the day: viewing Don Bernstein's 40 antique car collection of great automobiles and 3 motorcycles.
Our President saw the collection with a Rolls-Royce group, and we were amazed with his collection. The car warehouse is located at
1028 Reeves St, door 20, Dunmore PA 18512. If you can't make the Day Drive, it's okay to only come to see the car collection
(email for more specific directions if you aren't going on the Day Drive).
At 12:30 PM we will have lunch at a local restaurant. Mr. & Mrs. Bernstein plan on joining us for lunch.

- May 15~-22 2018 - StarFest 2018 in Alabama
First details are in The Star Jan-Feb 2017 pg 96 quoted here:
"The Alabama section will be hosting StarFest 2018 approximately May 16-22, 2018. We use the term "approximately" because
we know from the StarTech 2013 experience that all 300 participants wanted to have a detailed tour of the magnificent Mercedes-Benz U.S.
International factory near Birmingham. In 2016 we have hosted over 140 of our members on factory tours. This is the ultimate "tech
session."
Even though four Alabama Section members have been trained as tour guides, and MBUSA has graciously agreed to let us use their stretched golf
carts, it still will take three to four days to provide our expected 400-600 participants with the expanded tours that we know our members
want.
We will start placing those who register earliest on Friday tours. Then we will add Thursday, Wednesday, Tuesday as necessary.
Don't despair, if you get a Tuesday tour. These take most of the morning or afternoon respectively. Since there is no StarTech for 2017,
we will have technical programs available at the hotel or the factory's training center for the days other than your tour.
The newly expanded Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum
on the east side of Birmingham has the largest (1700) motorcycle collection and the largest
(65+) Lotus race car collection in the world. Their restoration facility with its robotic water jet cutting, CNC machining, and 3D printing can
make almost any part that is no longer available. This place is "worth a journey" as the Michelin Green Guide would say.
The U.S. Space & Rocket Center
in nearby Huntsville, features the Apollo Missions to the moon which were developed here. Four of Alabama Section's
members were on Werner von Braun's team, and they assist with tours.
We will also have several rallye routes of our favorite mountain roads that start right at the hotel.
There is a very favorable rate of $111/ night for the Birmingham Hilton Perimeter South,
which is in a very nice area. We even get our own private parking area with car washing facilities.
Go to the hotel's web site
to see details.
In future, we will cover the Saturday concours around the Brand Immersion Center
(YouTube video),
the off-road course at Barber Motorsports Park
and the unimproved forest road drives for the wonderful SUV's.
All the ML, GL, GLE, and GLS in the world are built at MBUSI (YouTube video),
so this will be a homecoming for these vehicles.
There will be historic races featuring Mercedes-Benz on Sat-Sun. You can take your own Mercedes-Benz on the Barber track Monday with a skilled
instructor at your side. There will be no competition, but rather this will be educational. Autocross competition will be staged in part of the
large paddock.
There will also be an "Autobahn Experience" on the 33-degree banking of the Talladega Superspeedway.
Here we will utilize the long back straight for acceleration runs."

1234 Long Pond Rd, Long Pond, PA 18334
Our own Debra Kropf wrote a review of their amazing experience at 2016 event, was eBlasted to our membership,
and is reproduced here.
Pocono Raceway is holding their third car show during their Annual IndyCar race.
More details are included in their Invitation Letter available here.
Last year went so well that they would like to host it in conjunction with their IndyCar race again on
August 19, 2018 from 10:00 AM until approximately 3:30 PM.
Please complete their 2018 Show Vehicle Registration form
and send the completed form to opssupport@poconoraceway.com or Attn: Bethany Zucco - Ops., Pocono Raceway,

(We were notified on June 20 that all spots are filled, but they "do have a wait list this year", so submit and be patient.)
Please notify our President Mike Ziegler
by email when you apply, and if you are accepted.
(The IndyCar race in 2016 got rained out, and rescheduled to Monday at Noon and a few of us attended both days,

- 1 free paddock parking pass for the show vehicle.
- 2 free grandstand tickets per show vehicle to enjoy the IndyCar action from the grandstand.

Day Drive ending at Jacobsburg Historical Society
– NEPA Section Event
This Day Drive will be different - we will start socializing at 9:30 AM at the Dunkin Donuts
(7721 Glenlivet Drive W, Fogelsville, PA 18051; near Rte 100 Weis Market).
The Club will provide coffee and doughnuts before the drive.
We will begin the drive at 10:00 AM and arrive at approximately 11:30 AM for lunch at a restaurant near the museum.
Following lunch, it will be a ten-minute drive to the museum for an interesting afternoon.
As usual, the drive will have numerous back roads. An interesting tour of the Historic 50-acre Henry Mansion and Long Rifle Museum is planned.
We will be touring the James Henry Mansion with all its original Henry family furniture, clothing, toys etc.
We will tour the original Nicholas Hawk gun shop and the 1750 period homestead museum.
The Henry family history began with the career of William Henry I who established his gun making business in Lancaster PA in 1752.
William was also an inventor who was a member of the prestigious American Philosophical Society in 1767.
William Henry II, also a gunsmith, worked in the Christian Spring settlement near Nazareth PA in 1776.
He acted as a civilian contractor providing arms for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Federal Government.
In 1812-13 the large gun factory was erected at Boulton, named for Matthew Boulton, partner of James Watt, who was a family friend.
A commercial alliance with John Jacob Astor's American Fur Company began in 1816 and lasted more than three decades.
The Henry Firm became the largest supplier of trade guns to the largest American business enterprise of the time.
The Henry gun works at Boulton (that we will visit) produced a total of over 110,000 firearms, a staggering amount for the day.
Overall, the Henry's manufactured firearms for 143 years. Come along with us on our drive and experience where "History Lives".

Fall Frolic Road Rally – NEPA Section Event
The rally will begin with breakfast on your own at The Starlite Diner
on 233 N Route 100, Allentown PA 18106 (south of Route 22). (The club paid $5 toward each club member's breakfast!)
The rally driver meeting will begin at 9:45 AM, but we encourage participants to arrive early enough for breakfast
on your own and to receive rally instructions. This rally is a form of friendly competition in which participating
cars leave the starting point individually and are directed to follow a prescribed route to the finish point.
We have planned a shorter rally to encourage participation by members who cannot afford to use an entire day.
This rally is shorter in length than our previous rallies and has no half way point.
COME TRY IT OUT.
THIS IS IN NO WAY A RACE. In a race, the idea is to get to the finish line in the shortest possible time.
In this rally the aim is to follow a predetermined route and correctly answer questions along the way.
Going too fast will hurt your chances of winning.
Answers to all questions can be found along the route for those lucky enough to locate them - sort of a treasure hunt.
Time allowed for completion of the rally will be more than enough to complete the task.
This contest is simply a test of your ability to follow precise instructions.
Our rally will cover approximately thirty-five miles (two to four hours).
Directions will be simple, so no previous experience will be necessary.
The rally will basically be a drive through the country, over scenic back roads while searching for answers to several questions,
answers to which can be found along the way. You will drive slowly looking for answers to questions.
Since you will be scored on driving the 'exact' route and distance, backtracking to locate missed answers will count against you.
Of course, so will missing the answer.
Obviously, this is NOT a one-man job. WE REQUIRE TWO OR MORE PERSONS TO A CAR - family members and friends are welcome to participate.
Each car will require a driver and one or more to 'navigate'. All you really need to participate is a pencil, a car,
a love for driving, a roadmap in case you get lost, and the desire to have a good time.
General Instructions will be given to each designated navigator the morning of the rally.
These 'Generals' will explain how to correctly follow the route and the 'Rules of the Road'.
Your rally master will go over the instructions in detail and will answer all questions at the drivers meeting prior
to the 10:00 AM start of the rally.
ALL PARTICIPANTS ARE INVITED TO JOIN US FOR BREAKFAST AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE
BUT ARE NOT REQUIRED TO BE THERE PRIOR TO THE DRIVER'S MEETING ABOUT 9:45.
The first car will start at about 10:00 AM. The Route Instructions, your directions from the start to finish of the rally,
will be given to each driver one-minute prior to your start time. One of the cardinal rally rules is 'NEVER ASSUME ANYTHING',
read your 'Generals' carefully.
Hope you will all plan to join us Saturday October 13th for food, good fun, and good fellowship.
Food and toilet facilities will be available at the end of the rally.
Plan to come early and have breakfast prior to the 9:45 AM starting time.
JOIN IN THE FUN! PLAN NOT TO MISS THIS ONE! The More Participants, the More Fun! Bring the Family!
Remember: Potential Members and/or Friends are Welcome to Participate in Your Mercedes-Benz vehicle or Their Own Mercedes-Benz.
The three top winners were: Brett & Debra with Dorothea; Luke and Stan; Tom & Diane.
